To
perform Umrah is a deeply spiritual experience for Muslims, often referred to as the lesser pilgrimage. Unlike Hajj, Umrah can be undertaken at any time of the year. The pilgrimage begins with the intention (niyyah) and entering the state of ihram, a simple dress that symbolizes purity. Pilgrims then perform Tawaf, circling the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction. Following this, they complete the Sa'i, walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. The journey concludes with the cutting of hair or shaving the head, symbolizing humility and submission to Allah.
