Court marriage takes place in front of the marriage officer in the court without any traditional ceremony. All court marriages are performed under the Special Marriage Act. Court marriage can happen between an adult boy and girl of any religion, sect or caste. A foreigner and an Indian can also have a court marriage.

The marriage is solemnized before the registrar in the presence of three witnesses. Conditions of court marriage- None of the young men and women applying for marriage should have had any previous marriage. The age of the groom should not be less than 21 years and that of the bride should not be less than 18 years. Neither of the two should be of such mental state as to be incapable of giving valid consent to the marriage.
