Sildenafil is a prescription Fildena 200 and Malegra 200 medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in males. It belongs to the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor class of medicines.

Sildenafil works by boosting blood flow to the penis, which aids in the attainment and maintenance of an erection during sexual stimulation. It accomplishes this by suppressing the function of the PDE5 enzyme, which typically degrades a molecule known as cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP).

When a guy gets sexually excited, his body produces nitric oxide, which increases cGMP production in the penis. The smooth muscles of the penis relax as a result of cGMP, allowing blood to flow into the penis and resulting in an erection. PDE5 ordinarily degrades cGMP; however, by inhibiting its function, sildenafil permits cGMP to accumulate, boosting its effects and causing an erection.

Sildenafil is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, a condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs is excessive, in addition to treating ED. In this situation, sildenafil acts by relaxing the smooth muscles in the artery walls, reducing resistance to blood flow and boosting oxygen supply to the body.
