For all beautiful women, Indian clothes add a plus to your beauty. They divinely contour your body, giving you the perfect look with Indian outfits for women. There are different types of Indian clothes and they are not limited to suits and sarees, but much more than that. Today we are going to talk about the amazing types of Indian clothes with their traditional and modern styles. Read and choose the type of Indian clothing that suits you best.

Types of Indian clothing with traditional and modern styles

1. Saree

Have you ever tried to wrap your mother's dupatta like a saree? Even me. Saree is a traditional Indian attire that originates from the Indus Valley civilization. It is one of the most well-known types of Indian clothing. Instead of a single classic draped sari style, there are 80 variations across the subcontinent. Such as the unpleated Bengali, the Odi style, the Kodagu style, the Malayalam style, etc.

The saree consists of a blouse and a petticoat, over which a fabric is draped according to the preferred style. Traditionally, the saree was a draped attire as well as traditional outfits for ladies. But now it has been replaced by the sewn and pre-sewn saree, which can be worn as a dress and requires no effort to drape.

Not only the draping styles, but also the blouse designs have changed tremendously in the last few decades. The new versions are very much inspired by western models, such as one-shoulder, off-shoulder, feathered, ruffled, layered and many more. However, the concept of the sari remains the same and is still omnipresent in major Indian fashion shows and collections, from the most luxurious to the most affordable.

2. Ghagra Choli

Also commonly known as lehenga choli, this ensemble consists of a long pleated skirt with a usually cropped choli and a scarf or dupatta. Originating from the Mughal era, it is one of the favorite garments that women still prefer today. It is one of the most common types of Indian clothing, apart from the sari, which can be worn on formal occasions such as weddings. The lehenga choli remains intact with the long-skirted choli and the dupatta. However, in recent years the styles, silhouettes and surface work of the choli, dupatta and skirts have changed.

3. Lancha

Lancha is another form of lehenga choli. The difference lies in the style of the choli and skirts. In the lancha ensemble, the choli is usually longer than the waist and falls over the waist of the lehenga. The lancha is a more conservative outfit, as this ensemble does not expose the waist. Traditionally, Mughal royalty wore lanchas and, today, they are an important part of bridal and festive fashion.

4. Dhoti Kurta

The dhoti is the traditional garment of the men of the Indian subcontinent. It is a rectangular piece of cotton or muslin fabric that is wrapped around the waist and partially covers the legs. It should be wrapped around the waist and legs and usually knotted at the front. Traditionally a garment meant to be worn by Indian men, it has now evolved with a modern twist to become a very popular choice in women's wear as well.

5. Salwar Suit

The salwar kameez is the most comfortable attire among all other types of Indian clothing. It is a combination of salwar, kameez and dupatta. The salwar resembles a loose, pleated pajama that is fitted at the waist and narrows at the ankles. The kameez, meanwhile, is the upper part of the dress, worn over the salwar and reaches to the knee or even higher. Trends evolve, as does the style of the kurtis and dupatta, but the essence remains the same.

6. Anarkali suit

A long flared kurta with tight churidar pants forms the anarkali combination. The anarkali dress is fitted to just above the waist and then flared to the knees. The anarkali is one of the types of Indian attire that has made a comeback decades ago. The modern designs touch the floor and look like ball gowns. They usually look royal and very elegant as well as comfortable. Modern styles of anarkali suits include jacket style, cape style, tiered style, floor length style and gown style.

7. Kurta and churidar

The churidar can be combined with dress style kurtis and other kurtis such as A-line, front cut, short and long kurtis. The churidar pants are longer than the length of the legs, the excess length is folded at the ankles and appears as bangles (churi), hence it is known as churidar. It is another outfit originating from the Mughal era and was widely worn by Pakistani women in the Punjab before partition. It is now worn throughout India and Pakistan.
